In Emtp-RV,  with Icigre device, i only see positive value in Data tab and the wave shape of lightning current is positive lightning stroke.  So how can we model negative lightning stroke? (In fact,80% lightning stroke is negative)

    Hi,

As far as I know, If you want to model a negative lightning current source in EMTP-RV, you can simply flip the device (right-click on the device and “”flip Vertical””). However, I don’t think it will impact the results since the absolute value of the resulting overvoltage will approximately be the same.

    Emmanuel.

    Hi,

Yes and I can also said, you could put a ground on the + pin and use the – pin as the output.

    Good day tienpy

I agree, the polarity of the excitation wave will not affect the results aside from the fact that your wave forms will now only be inverted. The effect of the polarity does however affect the insulation withstand capability – but the system response in terms of expected voltages throughout the network will be the same regardless if the excitation is positive or negative. The only time that this will not be the case is if you have dopped semiconductive devices such as diodes etc. but I doubt that your studies pertains to that.

    kind regards,

    B
