Is it possible to model a substation ground grid in EMTP that includes the effect of lightning surge dissipation into earth?  I would like to calculate the voltage surge on control cable shields during a lightning strike to a grounded substation structure.

    Any examples available?

    Hi,

There is some EMTP models for substation earth grid available in the litterature like in this book.  The grid is basically modeled by a RL network. It should be sufficient for a first approximation but a more detailed analysis would require flux calculation.

I hope it helps. Do not hesitate to contact our support (support@emtp-software.com) for more info.

    Best regards,

    Emmanuel.
