DESCRIPTION:HVDC-VSC systems training May 2020 \nLearning objectives\nThe purpose of this training is to build and strengthen the technical and analytical capacityof  the  participants  and  therefore  their  respective  institutions  in  the domain of HVDC VSC Systems. \nThe large-scale development of renewable energy sources in transmission grids\, along with public  demand  to  avoid  construction  of  new  overhead  lines\,  has  led  to increased applications  of  long  high-voltage  underground  cables\,  the  addition  of  dynamic  reactive power support\, and new HVDC links using underground DC cables.The  increasing  penetration  of  power  electronics-based  devices  in  the  network  has  a significant impact on grid performance and reliability. It requires improvements in control and protection systems and understanding of dynamic behaviour.Specific skills and tools are required to study these technologies. \nTarget audience & Required skills\nThis  course  is  intended  for engineers\,  researchers\,  operators  and  maintenance personnel\, to provide up-to-date technical expertise for HVDC-VSC projects. \nTraining methodology\nThis training session will be interactive\, including presentations from experts as well as case studies. \nTraining materials will be provided during the sessions. \nEach   participant   will   receive   a   temporary   license   of   the simulation   tool   EMTP (www.emtp.com) valid during the training. It will be used to illustrate concepts presented during training. DESCRIPTION:Insulation coordination analysis with EMTP \nTraining objectives\nThe objective of this training is to get familiar with the usage of EMT-type software and the study of power-system transients. How to model power-systems\, what scenarios to run and how to interpret and verify results are as many questions that will be addressed. The software EMTP is used for demonstrating concepts and teaching through practical cases. Prior experience with EMTP is not required. \nTraining structure\nThe duration of the training is 3 days.\nThe training starts at 10 am and ends at 6 pm every day. Lunch breaks are from 1.30 pm to 2 pm.\nThe training is presented in English. \nComputer and temporary EMTP license\nEach participant will have to bring a personal computer.
