DESCRIPTION:HVDC-VSC Systems Training \nObjectives\nThe objective of the training is to present a technical hands-on on HVDC-VSC systems.\nIt is organized in collaboration with RTE International. \nThe training covers the following topics: \nIntroduction to Power Systems \nIntroduction to VSC-MMC technology \nModeling and simulation of HVDC-VSC systems with EMTP® \nVSC-MMC station control and protection \nIntroduction to DC cable technology \nHVDC-VSC project specifications \nMaintenance of HVDC converters \nThis course presents practical and technical information on HVDC-VSC systems.\nEMTP® will be used to illustrate concepts and performances of HVDC-VSC systems. \nTraining structure\nThe duration is 5 days.\nThe training starts at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm every day.\nLunch breaks (included in the course fee) are from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. \nIntended audience\nThis course is designed for engineers\, researchers\, and students with a keen interest in HVDC systems. \nComputer and temporary EMTP® licenses\nEvery participant is required to bring their own personal computer. Temporary EMTP® licenses will be provided to participants for the course’s duration. \nProgram\nDay 1: Introduction and HVDC Technology Basics\n\nOverview of HVDC technology – evolution\, key drivers and challenges\nHVDC MMC station main equipment description\nHVDC connection requirements overview & HVDC system applications\nBasics of Power Electronics in EMT – Introduction to EMTP®\n\nDay 2: Project Management and Specifications of HVDC Projects\n\nBasic Design approach\nTender Principles\nTechnical Specification\nProject Execution\n\nDay 3: HVDC Converter Design and EMT Studies\n\nIntroduction to HV cable technology\nCable systems in HVDC projects\nInstallation\, operation\, maintenance\, and monitoring\nHVDC converter design principles\nIntroduction to HVDC control and architecture\nGeneral description of VSC controls\nSpecific upper-level and low-level controls for MMC converters\n\nDay 4: HVDC-VSC Design Studies and Convtrol & Protection Aspects\n\nHVDC system design studies\nGeneral overview of converter protection strategy and implementation in real systems\nHVDC-VSC behaviour during AC fault events\nDC side transients analysis of typical DC faults\nIntroduction to transients during start-up and shut-down sequences\n\nDay 5: Maintenance of HVDC-VSC systems and integration in AC grids\n\nIntroduction to the maintenance principles of HVDC-VSC systems\nMaintenance of HVDC-VSC converter stations\, focus on HVDC specifics\nIntroduction to practical experiences using replica\nMaintenance specifications\, spare parts\, experiences and recommendations\nReal Time Simulation Studies Introductions\nSpecific upper-level and low-level controls for MMC converters\n\nGeneral conditions\nRTE International conditions apply.
